HONG KONG, KOMPAS.com – Untuk kedua kalinya, Samsung terpilih menjadi produsen pertama yang mengusung versi anyar Android buatan Google di smartphone. Dalam konferensi pers di Hong Kong, Rabu (19/10/2011), Samsung memamerkan Galaxy Nexus, model smartphone pertama yang sudah menggunakan Android 4.0 atau dikenal dengan Ice Cream Sandwich.
Galaxy Nexus merupakan smartphone ketiga yang menjadi percontohan Google dengan mengusung brand Nexus. Model pertama, Nexus One yang merupakan contoh impelemntasi Android 2.2 atau Froyo menggunakan hardware buatan HTC. Model kedua, Nexus S, yang merupakan contoh implementasi Android 2.3 atau Gingerbread buatan Samsung.
Bentuk Samsung Galaxy Nexus mirip dengan Nexus S dengan layar yang melengkung sehingga lebih luwes saat di genggaman tangan mengikuti lekuk tubuh manusia. Meski mirip dengan pendahulunya, form factor Galaxy Nexus sedikit lebih tipis (8,94 mm) dan sedikit lebih berat (135 gram).
Samsung membekali Galaxy Nexus dengan spesifikasi hardware yang tinggi, seperti prosesor dual core 1,2GHz dan chip grafik PowerVR SGX542MP2, sama seperti yang ada di iPad 2 dan iPhone 4S, serta memiliki layar Super AMOLED 4,65 inci dengan resolusi kualitas HD, 1280×720.
Mendahului para pesaingnya, smartphone Samsung Galaxy Nexus sudah dibekali koneksi LTE (Long Term Evolution) yang merupakan standar jaringan seluler generasi keempat atau 4G selain HSPA+.
Sementara kameranya dua buah, masing-masing kamera 5 MP di belakang dan 1,3 megapiksel di depan. Meski kualitas kamera bukan yang terbaik di pasar saat ini, Samsung mengklaim telah menggunakan teknologi zero shuter lag sehingga gambar yang dihasilkan sama dengan saat tombol pengambilan ditekan.
Fitur standar yang disematkan adalah NFC (Near Field Communication) yang sudah diperkenalkan sejak Google merilis Android 2.3. Sebelumnya, Google menyatakan akan memaksimalkan fungsi NFC di Android 4.0 untuk layanan transaksi pembayaran mobile, bertukar kontak antarsmartphone, bermain game, dan fungsi lainnya.
Galaxy Nexus akan diluncurkan di pasar pada November mendatang di AS, Eropa, dan Asia. Meski demikian, belum ada bocoran berapa harga yang akan dibanderol Samsung untuk smartphone termutakhirnya ini.
